THE READERS
WE FIRST MET ALMOST 10 YEARS AGO IN ITALY; I WAS INTERVIEWING NAOMI FOR A DIFFERENT PROJECT THAT WILL ONLY MATERIALIZE THIS YEAR LOL.
I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING HER ON INSTAGRAM AND I HAVE ADMIRED HER SENSE OF STYLE, HER EFFORTLESS FRESHNESS, SOMETHING I HAD NEVER SEEN BEFORE, ESPECIALLY FROM AN ITALIAN WOMAN.
CAUSE YES, IN MY IMAGINATION, ITALIAN WOMEN ARE OVERDRESSED, HEAD-TO-TOE IN ITALIAN DESIGNERS, THAT'S DEFINITELY NOT THE CASE FOR NAOMI, SHE HAS AN UNPREDICTABLE STYLE THAT IS A BIG PART OF HER APPEAL.
FOLLOWED HER ADVENTURES WHEN SHE MOVED TO DUBAI, WHERE SHE WAS ALWAYS SURROUNDED BY THE COOLEST PEOPLE WORKING ON THE COOLEST PROJECTS.
I DON'T KNOW WHY I OVERUSE THAT TERM SO MUCH TO DESCRIBE HER, BUT IT'S BECAUSE NAOMI IS COOLER THAN THE COOLEST OF YOUR GIRLFRIENDS.
SHE EMBODIES THIS AESTHETIC, HER DEMEANOR, PRESENCE AND STYLE, WHICH IS UNIVERSALLY ADMIRED, IS EFFORTLESSLY SOMEWHERE BETWEEN SEXY AND SPORTY. SHE'S ATTRACTIVE AND ON TOP OF THAT PRETTY DAMN SMART.
WE STAYED IN TOUCH AND I NATURALLY STARTED TO GET INTERESTED IN HER PASSIONS, SPORTS AND CULTURE, ESPECIALLY SOCCER.
NAOMI IS A SOCCER’S EXPERT, SHE KNOWS EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE IN THIS SECTOR.THROUGH HER SOCCER KNOWLEDGE SHE SPEAKS ABOUT THE VARIOUS PROBLEMS OF OUR WORLD, THE SOCIAL AND CULTURAL IMPLICATIONS OF THE DISCIPLINE AND ITS INTERSECTION WITH FASHION
SHE IS THE EDITOR-AT-LARGE OF SEASON-ZINE, A PUBLICATION HALFWAY BETWEEN A SOCCER FANZINE AND A FASHION MAGAZINE, WHERE SHE HONORS FEMALE FANS, HIGHLIGHTS MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES AND FOCUSES ON THE UNVEILING OF SOCCER'S UNSEEN MEMBERS .
HERE’S SOME GREAT BOOKS BY BLACK AUTHORS THAT SHE FOUND FASCINATING AND THAT EVERYONE SHOULD READ :
1. A New Formation by Calum Jacobs
A New Formation is quite simply one of the most important football books ever written. What we often like to imagine as the history of football has, for the most part, been written entirely through the white male gaze. In this collection of essays A New Formation tells new stories, forgotten stories, undervalued stories, and does so with heart and humanity and humor. It's our game, as narrated by the people who love it.
